Research on HMB (Beta-Hydroxy Beta-Methylbuterate) has conclusively proven to prevent the destruction of muscle tissue that occurs subsequent to strenuous exercise, specifically intensive resistance (weight) training. HMB has therefore become an essential supplement for elite athletes, body builders and sportsmen to assist in preserving muscle and power that is gained during weight training. Studies on power athletes supplementing with HMB have shown to increase muscle mass and power by up to 14% without lowering fitness levels. Recovery time between vigorous training sessions was also significantly reduced. Furthermore, HMB has also been shown to preserve muscle tissue during periods when athletes are training and dieting to reduce body fat.
